Pratt & Whitney Canada Signs Maintenance Contracts Covering More than 300 Auxiliary Power Units

Marketwire

PARIS LE BOURGET, FRANCE--(Marketwired - June 20, 2017) - In the weeks leading up to the Paris Airshow, Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) has signed maintenance agreements for more than 300 Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) with major airlines. P&WC is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

"APUs are the unsung workhorses of the aviation industry and P&WC has established itself as a leading supplier of these engines which greatly lessen an aircraft's environmental impact while on the ground, conserve fuel and assist with the operation of the aircraft," says Marty Kessell, Vice President, APU Market, P&WC.

P&WC offers several types of APU maintenance agreements to suit our customers' varying needs and operational environments. The pay-per-hour (PpH) plan allows the customer to make monthly payments based on a set rate for every hour flown to cover ongoing maintenance costs. The event cost plan allows the customer to pay for hours flown at the time of the shop visit for the specific maintenance event, rather than on a monthly basis. P&WC also has a material cost guarantee plan which is offered to customers who do their own repairs in their own shops.

In many cases, P&WC also provides spare-part support options which complement these APU maintenance support programs. All of P&WC's service plans provide excellent value and flexibility to customers and allow for predictive costs.

P&WC currently has more than 6,000 APUs in service in 19 different models; the entire P&WC APU fleet has flown more than 96 million hours. Today, there are nearly 3,000 APUs currently enrolled in maintenance programs.

"Our family of APUs covers a broad variety of aircraft platforms and the critical mass of APUs we have flying has been the impetus for us to create an exceptional customer service network," says Kessell. "We have one of the the world's largest worldwide service networks and the most experienced service experts in the business ready to serve APU customers 24/7 virtually anywhere in the world."

P&WC's support network includes CFirst response centres in Montreal and Singapore which provide 24/7 support, dedicated Customer Managers who work directly with customers to provide guidance and help resolve issues, plus a global service network that includes APU MRO services in Poland and West Palm Beach, Florida, and APU leasing centres strategically located around the world.

P&WC will be at the Paris Air Show, Pavilion C2. Interested operators are invited to drop by to speak with a marketing or customer service representative.

100,000 reasons to go beyond

Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) has signed a definitive agreement to supply its latest PW150 engine family powerplant - the PW150C - to power the AVIC Aircraft MA700 aircraft. Since the selection of the PW150C for the new regional turboprop, P&WC has invested significantly in the engine's development to support its integration into the airframe. P&WC is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

"The PW150C turboprop engine continues to build on the proven PW150A engine architecture and will incorporate the latest technologies to deliver performance and fuel efficiency to the newly designed MA700 aircraft," said Frédéric Lefebvre, Vice President, Marketing, P&WC. "Enhancements we have built into the PW150C engine include advanced high-efficiency technologies, materials and manufacturing processes, including a third-stage power turbine, a modified reduction gearbox to support the aircraft's larger-diameter propellers and an optimized low-pressure compressor."

The PW150C engine control will be integrated with the MA700's avionics and controls system to reduce pilot workload. It will offer enhanced dispatch availability and reliability in hot and high environments of Western China.

"To date, we have agreed on the definition of the mechanical interfaces and will soon close on the controls and functional interfaces definition," said Lefebvre. "The engine is in the detailed design phase and will be available to support AVIC's first aircraft rollout and flight test program."

The selection of the PW150C engine by AVIC Aircraft to power its MA700 aircraft is a testament to P&WC's ongoing innovation in regional aviation. It also further extends P&WC's presence in China's rapidly growing aviation industry.

P&WC has a long-standing relationship with AVIC dating back to the late 1980s, when the PT6 engine was selected to power its Y12 utility aircraft. The relationship with AVIC was further strengthened by a collaboration with Xi'an Aircraft Company in the development of the MA60/600 aircraft powered by the PW127J in the early 1990s. To date, more than 100 MA60 aircraft have been delivered to operators in China and elsewhere.

P&WC will be in Pavilion C2 at the Paris Air Show. Interested parties are invited to drop by to speak with a marketing or customer service representative.

Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today with Ilyushin Joint Stock Company of Russia to explore the restart of the IL-114-100 regional turboprop aircraft program with PW127H engines. P&WC is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

Under the MOU, signed during the 2017 Paris Airshow being held at Le Bourget in France, P&WC will support the initial program restart by providing two PW127H engines for IL-114-100 regional turboprop aircraft. Both companies will also cooperate in reaching a new, long-term agreement regarding future regional turboprop programs for Russian and international regions.

"This agreement marks a milestone in Pratt & Whitney Canada's involvement in the Russian aerospace industry," said Frederic Lefebvre, Vice-President, Marketing, P&WC. "We look forward to working closely with Ilyushin to make the restart of this highly efficient passenger aircraft a success."

P&WC and Ilyushin, a member of Russia's United Aircraft Corporation, originally worked together on the IL-114-100 regional aircraft at the end of the 1990s and early 2000s. The first flight of the IL-114-100, powered by two PW127Н turboprop engines, took place in January 1999 and the aircraft obtained a type certificate from the Aviation Register of the Interstate Aviation Committee at the end of that year.

Ten IL-114-100 aircraft were manufactured in Uzbekistan on behalf of Ilyushin and delivered to launch customer Uzbekistan Airways starting in 2002. The aircraft participated in many international air shows and attracted the attention of potential customers worldwide at the time, but the program was later suspended.

"The IL-114-100 aircraft already has a head start with a certified platform and the P&WC PW127H engine which has accumulated more than 118,000 flying hours," notes Nikolay Talikov, Ilyushin General Designer. "With a range of 4,500 km at 460 km/hr, it is well positioned for takeoff among customers in both Russian and international regional requirements."

P&WC will be at the Paris Air Show, Pavilion C2. Interested operators are invited to drop by to speak with a marketing or customer service representative.
