Australia's Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Uses Pratt & Whitney Canada's FASTTM Prognostics Solution to Enhance Air Operations

FAST now installed on six RFDS South Eastern Section PT6A-powered King Air aircraft with more installations planned for the unique prognostic solution

Marketwire

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA--(Marketwired - Oct. 9, 2017) - Australia's famed Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern (RFDS SE) Section is adopting Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC)'s FAST (Full flight data Acquisition, Storage and Transmission) prognostic solution to help optimize its operations, reduce costs, increase the availability of its fleet of PT6A-powered Beechcraft King Air aircraft and bring new efficiencies to their aeromedical organization through predictive and preventive maintenance. P&WC is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

"The FAST engine health management solution is ideally suited to the RFDS, a long-time P&WC customer that continues to raise the bar as an adopter of digital technologies to support their life-saving missions and enhance its operations," said Tim Swail, Vice President, Customer Programs, P&WC. "We are committed to delivering tailored, data-driven services to our customers that drive greater engine and aircraft availability, reduce costs, and help optimize their maintenance environment."

The FAST solution, under P&WC's expanding suite of digital engine services, continues to enhance engine and aircraft "connectivity" through its ability to provide situational awareness about engine health, usage and trends. It captures, analyzes and wirelessly transmits high-density, full-flight data after each mission for over 2,000 P&WC engines.

In April 2015 three of the RFDS SE Section's aircraft were equipped and utilized as sample aircraft to enable P&WC's FAST technology to be certified for Beechcraft King Air aircraft. Since final certification in May 2017, another three aircraft have been equipped and there are plans in place for several more installations of the FAST solution in 2018.

"With the FAST solution we can now understand more about how our aircraft operate, be more efficient and provide a better experience for patients in the Australian Outback," said David Charlton, General Manager of Aviation and Strategic Development, RFDS SE Section. "We greatly value the opportunity to collaborate with P&WC because solutions like the FAST system help keep us at the forefront of safety and innovation in the Asia Pacific aeromedical sector."

P&WC's FAST solution is available for numerous aircraft platforms in general aviation, regional airlines, business jets and helicopters. Other recent enhancements to FAST include propeller vibration trend monitoring for regional airline customers, enabling on-board event detection and crew alerts, turbine blade creep counting, as well as automated power assurance checks for helicopter operators.

P&WC will be at NBAA, booth N2133. Interested operators are invited to drop by the booth to speak with a marketing or customer service representative.

P&WC Launches PT6A Certified Pre-Owned Engine Program

Program will provide P&WC engine warranty package on qualifying in-service PT6A-powered aircraft to offer customers and used aircraft dealers greater value and peace of mind

Marketwire

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA--(Marketwired - Oct. 9, 2017) - Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) has introduced a Certified Pre-Owned program for its in-service fleet of PT6A engines. Through their aircraft dealer, customers of PT6A-powered used aircraft whose engines are certified under the program will be given a P&WC one-year/500-hour first run warranty along with additional benefits, which include options for six months complimentary technical publications, credit toward P&WC's ESP™ pay-per-hour plan, discounts on maintenance training through FlightSafety International, and more. P&WC is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

"The Certified Pre-Owned program is about delivering greater value and peace of mind to potential customers of PT6A-powered used aircraft as well as to help dealers differentiate their inventory," said Michel Toutant, Vice President, Customer Service, P&WC. "We are working to develop tailored, value-added solutions for all customers with aircraft at all lifecycle stages."

PT6A engines that qualify under the Certified Pre-Owned program will have passed an inspection, will have been maintained in a P&WC-owned or designated facility and contain only P&WC genuine parts. The company is launching the program on PT6A engines because of the size of the in-service fleet and will consider expanding it to other engine families in the future.

"The PT6A turboprop engine has earned a unique place in the aviation industry based on its ubiquity and unmatched performance, reliability and enduring value," said Toutant. "PT6A engines can operate for decades. With this program, prospective customers can have the utmost confidence in knowing they are buying a P&WC certified PT6A powerplant."

P&WC will be at NBAA, booth N2133. Interested operators are invited to drop by the booth to speak with a marketing or customer service representative.

PW307 Engine Customers See Significant Shift toward More Fully Planned Maintenance Environments Resulting from Pratt & Whitney Canada's Digital Engine Services and Proactive-Help Desk

Marketwire

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA--(Marketwired - Oct. 9, 2017) -

Editors Note: There is a photo associated with this press release.

P&WC's PW300 Pro-Active Help Desk has significantly improved on-condition maintenance planning and reduced unscheduled interventions for specific key availability drivers on PW307-powered aircraft - from 85% in 2015 to 20% in 2017 - using predictive analytics and high quality, full-flight data from P&WC's FAST (Flight, Acquisition, Storage and Transmission) prognostics solution. Both the Proactive Help Desk and FAST are among P&WC's expanding suite of Digital Engine Services, which drive optimized, on-condition maintenance tasks, minimizing the maintenance burden and creating a more planned environment for customers. P&WC is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

P&WC's Proactive Help Desk is a dedicated team of aviation technicians and data analysts that use the predictive analytics developed from hundreds of thousands of flight hours of full-flight data captured through P&WC's FAST prognostic solution installed on the PW307-powered aircraft. The team also uses up-to-the-minute data analysis from P&WC's health management collaborator CAMP Systems International Inc., to address customer needs with data-driven decisions, preventative maintenance tools and best practices.

"We already deliver benchmark powerplant dispatch reliability of 99.94% on the Falcon 7X and 8X - and with the predictive and preventive approach to engine health management our customers are seeing the additional benefit of reduced variability and maintenance burden," said Tim Swail, Vice President, Customer Programs, P&WC. "We are demonstrating in real-time that when we put full-flight data together with high-quality, OEM-validated analytics and an expert team of engineers, we bring true value to our customers: Higher availability, lower costs and personalized maintenance recommendations."

The Proactive Team focused on several availability drivers and the team continues to pinpoint new "digital signatures" that indicate the potential occurrence of a future event well in advance so it can be addressed proactively or averted entirely.

The Proactive Help Desk was first introduced to customers of P&WC's PW300 engines that are enrolled in the Eagle Service™ Plan (ESP™) pay-per-hour maintenance program. The help desk is an added feature for customers who have invested in ESP coverage and P&WC's advanced diagnostics and prognostics solutions. The team conducts daily reviews of customer data from sources such as the FAST™ prognostics solution to identify and flag maintenance requirements so they can be addressed during scheduled field interventions.

FAST™ Solution

The FAST solution, offered under P&WC's expanding suite of digital engine services, provides full-flight data after each mission for more than 2,000 P&WC engines, a 50 percent increase of engines supported by the solution in the past 12 months. P&WC's FAST solution is available for numerous aircraft platforms serving hundreds of customers in general aviation, regional airlines, business jets and helicopters.

Oil Analysis Technology

Data provided by P&WC's new Oil Analysis Technology will also play a role in the company's help desk service by allowing for a highly accurate assessment of key oil-wetted components. The technology has been commercially launched for PW306A engine customers. For the PW306A engine now, and other engines in the future, P&WC sees its FAST and Oil Analysis solutions as complementary steps toward an all-encompassing view of the health and efficiency of in-service engines.

P&WC will be at NBAA, booth N2133. Interested operators are invited to drop by the booth to speak with a marketing or customer service representative.

P&WC Sets Benchmark Readiness for PurePower PW800 Engine Entry Into Service

From Global Frontline Support to Data-Driven Predictive and Preventative Maintenance and Digital Services: P&WC is Ready

Marketwire

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA--(Marketwired - Oct. 9, 2017) - The ground-breaking PurePower PW800 turbofan engine is entering the key final steps as it proceeds towards entry into service, Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) announced today. The PurePower PW800 recently reached the milestones of 16,600 hours and 16,800 cycles, including both ground testing and flight testing on P&WC's flying test bed and Gulfstream G500 and G600 flight test aircraft. P&WC is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

Entry Into Service Readiness

Preparations for the engine's entry into service are in full swing, with the addition of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Type Certifications received on August 31, 2017 and in February 2017, respectively.

P&WC has taken significant steps to ensure that the company's global support network is fully ready to provide operators with rapid, reliable and customized service. More than 150 frontline representatives have received training to provide customers with dedicated assistance going forward. More than 90% of the spare parts inventory has been stocked in parts distribution centres worldwide and are ready to be dispatched. Technical publications are 100% complete as a result of a strong ongoing collaboration with Gulfstream. The initial overhaul shop is ready to complete a final certification audit. These latest developments demonstrate that the PurePower PW800 is poised for a smooth takeoff.

The New Benchmark

"The PurePower PW800 is the only engine in the 10,000- to 20,000-lb thrust class that's primed to enter service. It has proven its capacity to meet and exceed targets throughout many hours of comprehensive testing, making it the new benchmark in its class for performance, maintenance and reliability," said Scott McElvaine, Vice President, Marketing and Customer Service, PurePower PW800 engines. "We look forward to further develop our relationship with Gulfstream and its operators and ensure our teams are ready to fully support the entry into service process."

Thanks to its robust design, the engine is expected to deliver best-in-class availability to operators, with a predicted 99.99% dispatch reliability. It also offers greater ease of maintenance than any other engine in its class, with a projected 40% reduction in scheduled on-wing maintenance events plus a 20% reduction in inspections. It significantly raises the bar for time on wing, with the first shop visit targeted at 10,000 hours or more.

It provides additional value for operators through double-digit improvements in fuel efficiency and noise emissions. Its low-noise design and low vibration levels result in an exceptionally quiet cabin, enabling a more comfortable passenger experience.

Seamless, Proactive and Predictive Maintenance

P&WC is rapidly advancing the digital interconnectivity of its frontline customer support and data-driven engine services and solutions for a seamless, proactive customer experience.

P&WC's Digital Engine Services Platform, which provides preventative, data-driven maintenance management and consulting services to customers, will be rolled out to PurePower® PW800 customers. Supported by a dedicated group of aviation technicians and data analysts who leverage near-real-time full-flight data, the Digital Engine Services Team will conduct daily reviews of customer data so that maintenance requirements can be addressed proactively during scheduled field interventions.

Similarly, P&WC's premium-level ESP® PurePower® PW800 program - in which customers can enroll now - provides proactive solutions and service to maximize availability and value.

"As the world prepares for the Gulfstream G500 entry into service powered by our PurePower PW800 engines, we have delivered an all-inclusive coverage plan focused on a preventive maintenance philosophy," said McElvaine. "It is backed by a worldwide 24/7 action team including field support, engineering and operations specialists to support smooth and optimized flight operations."

P&WC will be at the NBAA-BACE 2017 in Las Vegas from October 10 to 12. Please join us at booth N2133 to learn more about the PurePower PW800 engine along with our many other innovative engines and industry-leading customer service offerings.

Pratt & Whitney Canada receives Transport Canada Certification for its PT6C-67A Engine Powering Leonardo AW609 Tiltrotor

Engine operates in both vertical and horizontal configurations

Marketwire

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - Oct. 3, 2017) - Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) announced today that its PT6C-67A helicopter engine - that powers the AW609, an aircraft that flies both horizontally and vertically - has achieved certification from Transport Canada. P&WC is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

FAA validation of the PT6C-67A engine is expected by the end of 2017 and supports FAA certification of the AW609 in 2018 as the first commercial tiltrotor to enter operation.

"We were presented with a special challenge by Leonardo Helicopters - design an engine to power an aircraft that takes off and lands vertically, and flies horizontally well above adverse weather conditions at twice the speed and range of a helicopter," says Irene Makris, Vice President, Marketing, P&WC. "The PT6C-67A eloquently answers that challenge with 2,000 shp output that provides exceptional power to weight ratio, and durability."

The PT6C-67A benefits from the reliability of the PT6 engine family. It has a new compressor with advanced aerodynamics and the engine's new turbines are made with state-of-the-art materials. Together, the new compressor and turbine enable increased power and reduced fuel consumption. The engine has also been certified to allow for continuous operation in a vertical position.

"Enabling the speed and performance characteristics of the AW609, the PT6C-67A certification now drives tiltrotor development forward towards the future of aircraft transport," said Gian Piero Cutillo, Managing Director, Leonardo Helicopters. "This certification represents a milestone within the program that will allow us to certify the aircraft by the end of 2018 and remain on schedule with initial customer deliveries."

P&WC will be at Helitech, booth 10B35. Interested operators are invited to drop by the booth to speak with a marketing or customer service representative.
