National Substance Abuse Prevention Month Unleashing the Collective Power of Communities October is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month. Since 2011 the tradition continues as parents, youth, schools and community leaders across the country join this month-long observance of the role that substance abuse prevention plays in promoting safe and healthy communities. This year’s theme is “Unleashing the Collective Power of Communities”. Please join the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and unleash the power within your community by sharing your Prevention Month plans at prevention@ondcp.eop.gov, and tweeting ONDCP at @ONDCP. Also, share the President's National Substance Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation with everyone you know. ONDCP will host a prevention webinar on Tuesday, October 6, from 2 - 3:30 p.m. (EST). The webinar will provide information on evidence-based prevention strategies and feature the important perspective of parents who have lost children due to one-time use of illicit drugs. We invite you to watch the event online or host a viewing party. Register today! To watch a video of ONDCP Director Botticelli speaking about Prevention Month and for additional Prevention Month resources, visit ONDCP’s web page https://www.whitehouse.gov/prevention-intro. |
